In the pay for performance real estate arena, competition is fierce, hard but fair. The easy way is.....well..."easy". The "easy way" is the path worn smooth and opportunity free by the masses of safe seeking, don't rock the boat, I don't like change, why?, it's too hard, masses.
Like you, I'm tempted, hypnotized and seduced by the ease required to fall in line and join the sad, do less, be less, earn less circus of soulless zombies. Sometimes, I'm simply tired and in a hurry. Whatever the reason, I take the "easy way" too. I aspire to be more - do more. We've got to veer!
Right?
What am I talking about? The fatal flaw - wishing and hoping for above average....being and delivering average and ordinary. Doing the common...over and over and over and expecting uncommon results. Putting people to sleep....bored to snoredom.
If you're a real estate agent in The Woodlands, business is booming...shards of success shrapnel are whistling through the air....are you wearing success repellent armor, or perhaps a secret agent, success proof, cloaking device....aka - acting, appearing and behaving average and meekly normal. Or...are you wearing electro-magnetic shrapnel attractant, standing tall, proud and bold. Are you a living, breathing, human SHOUT or a faint squeak?
What will you do Monday morning, this next week, in the months to follow? What will you do to elevate yourself above the sea of sameness. Will you veer?
Seth's post (below) inspires me and slaps my lazy attitudes to attention.
I'm happy to say that it's not uncommon for people to remark with conviction about some of the goofy/odd/unusual things I say and do? I'm not convinced that it's all good, but a least I exist.
We can be "remarkable" in many way? Our presentation, the way we look, our tools & toys, our dress, our style, our business card, our materials, our marketing, our advertising....on and on. Thankfully, we can create supreme REMARKABILIITY without without spending one thin dime. It doesn't have to be something we own or buy...it can simply be WHO WE ARE, HOW WE ARE and HOW WE TREAT OTHERS!
Here are 8 Stepping Stones to REMARKABILITY.
1. Be positive.
2. Be supportive, encourage and appreciate.
3. Be enthusiastic, energetic and upbeat.
4. Be active, take action, be bold, be courageous.
5. Smile...laugh - laugh at yourself, laugh with others.
6. Learn, stretch, grow, challenge yourself.
7. Believe in yourself, believe in others.
8. Love all, serve all, be patient, be kind, be generous.
Do these more often and you will be "REMARKABLE".
So, as one of my favorite guys, Scott Ginsberg would say; LET ME ASK YA THIS... "How about you? Do people "remark" about you?"
Here's what Seth has to say:
How to be remarkable
From this week's Guardian:
1. Understand the urgency of the situation. Half-measures simply won't do. The only way to grow is to abandon your strategy of doing what you did yesterday, but better. Commit.
2. Remarkable doesn't mean remarkable to you. It means remarkable to me. Am I going to make a remark about it? If not, then you're average, and average is for losers.
3. Being noticed is not the same as being remarkable. Running down the street naked will get you noticed, but it won't accomplish much. It's easy to pull off a stunt, but not useful.
4. Extremism in the pursuit of remarkability is no sin. In fact, it's practically a requirement. People in first place, those considered the best in the world, these are the folks that get what they want. Rock stars have groupies because they're stars, not because they're good looking.
5. Remarkability lies in the edges. The biggest, fastest, slowest, richest, easiest, most difficult. It doesn't always matter which edge, more that you're at (or beyond) the edge.
6. Not everyone appreciates your efforts to be remarkable. In fact, most people don't. So what? Most people are ostriches, heads in the sand, unable to help you anyway. Your goal isn't to please everyone. Your goal is to please those that actually speak up, spread the word, buy new things or hire the talented.
7. If it's in a manual, if it's the accepted wisdom, if you can find it in a Dummies book, then guess what? It's boring, not remarkable. Part of what it takes to do something remarkable is to do something first and best. Roger Bannister was remarkable. The next guy, the guy who broke Bannister's record wasn't. He was just faster ... but it doesn't matter.
